Radon is for real. You can not see it, smell it or taste it, but the Surgeon General has warned that it is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States today.

Radon is a radioactive gas that comes from the natural breakdown of uranium in the soil, rock and water. Due to the "stack effect", it is drawn into your house through cracks in the foundation and other openings.

Elevated levels of radon have been found in every state and in all types of homes…old and new. The Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety (IDNS) studies have shown elevated levels of radon in over 30% of the homes tested in central Illinois.

Elevated radon levels are easily and inexpensively fixed by licensed mitigators. The cost will vary depending on the size and design of the home, but generally runs $800 - $1500.

Home buyers who do not address this issue now may be forced to deal with it when they become home sellers.
